The book in which Raul Gardini, prompted by Cesare Peruzzi’s questions, retraces the fundamental stages of his training and career returns to bookstores thirty years later, in a revised edition increased by unpublished papers and photographs. From his childhood in Ravenna to his marriage to Idina Ferruzzi, daughter of Serafino, founder of the homonymous group in which Gardini grew in role, competence and vision; from the takeover of Montedison to the Enimont affair, passing through the Italian and international events that shaped economic and industrial life between the 1970s and 1990s and whose echoes reverberate clearly in the present. But what most permeates these pages is not the chronicle of the ambitious career of one of the most refined entrepreneurial minds of our country, but the foresight with which Raul Gardini – mocking, audacious, dreamer – has always looked to the future, seeing from the beginning the results and imagining further possible, better versions. It is from this acumen that his reflections on the “energy vocation” of plants, on the use of biomass for the production of clean energy, on the protection of collective health and on the more virtuous declinations of the chemical industry are born, reflections that were then welcomed with skepticism and which today sound perfectly current, courageous, alive.
