“The greatest Adriatic challenge of all time, that time when sailing, also thanks to television, became a national sport”. Thus begins the story of the exhibition “Il Moro di Venezia / America’s Cup 1992” shown from September 5th to September 26th 2023 with free entrance.
A story that of the Moro di Venezia and the boats of the Gardini family, which begins well before participation in the America’s Cup, with a passion for sailing that was born and developed entirely in the Adriatic. A story that is retraced in the splendid rooms of Palazzo Rasponi dalle Teste in the heart of Ravenna, with a photographic and video installation which, together with documentary materials, celebrates the fantastic feat of Raul Gardini in his native Ravenna.
The images, signed by Carlo Borlenghi, official photographer of the Italian challenges in the America’s Cup, are dedicated to the Moro di Venezia challenge at the America’s Cup. A series of photographs taken in the early 1990s covering the design of the boat, the close relationship of Moro with its Venezia, the crew captained by Paul Cayard, some of the most exciting shots during sea trials and the magnetic personality of Raul Gardini.
Images, explained Borlenghi, which highlight the differences between the boats of the past, “more beautiful”, compared to the more modern ones and which immortalize the action from inside. And then…” the human side of Raul Gardini, which was the best thing I’ve ever had in an America’s Cup: he created a crew of young people and with his charisma he managed to lead the cup and win the Louis Vuitton”.
