Mitja Gialuz, President of the Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano, together with the great photographer Carlo Borlenghi inaugurated, on October 5th 2022, the splendid exhibition dedicated to Moro di Venezia held inside the Salone degli Incanti in Trieste on the occasion of the Barcolana 54 regatta.
The exhibition traces in images the magical years of the Italian challenge in the America’s Cup, from 1989 to 1992, with a series of shots that the photographer Carlo Borlenghi took during training, boat building and racing with Raul Gardini and Paul Cayard. Almost a “behind the scenes” – commented Mitja Gialuz – “of an event and historic moment for Italian sailing, a great adventure that began in the Adriatic, which also sees the Barcolana protagonist, thanks to Gardini’s participation in several editions of the famous regatta, before the Cup, while building his passion for sailing”.
“The exhibition tells through photography all the technology, passion and desire to win of Moro di Venezia with Gardini” – recalled Carlo Borlenghi – ” who knew how to put a very young team into the water, give them confidence and with his charisma bring them to victory“.
At Barcolana there were four boats – moored with full honors in the San Giusto Basin – that belonged to the Gardini’s family: next to Moro 2 – the white one with the green stripe, protagonist in many historical editions of the Barcolana with Tiziano Nava and Tommaso Chieffi on board – Moro di Venezia II, one of the five made for the Cup challenge, Naif and Moretto.
We include the interviews with the photographer Carlo Borlenghi and the designer German Frers, taken from the talk show hosted by the journalist Antonio Vettese for The Boat Show on this occasion.
